The Costa Blanca is one of the most popular tourist areas in Spain. The beautiful weather and beaches attract millions to the region every year. Although the summer is the busiest travel season, the area has beautiful weather all year round.

The northern Costa Blanca starts at the base of the mountains in Denia and Javea. The region runs down the Mediterranean Coastline to Torrevieja in the south. There are large cities and small villages to visit all along the region.

Traveling to the Costa Blanca

Most travellers take a flight into the Alicante airport when visiting this region. The tourist traffic is heaviest in the summer months. If you plan to travel in summer, be sure to book your flight, hotel and car hire well in advance. You will get the best deals with the most availability by planning ahead.

Once you arrive at the airport, you have several choices for travelling to your destination. A car will give you the most freedom. However, if you prefer not to drive you have other options. Buses and taxis can take you to the train station or any of the towns surrounding the airport. The train system is efficient for travelling from city to city during your visit.

Attractions on the Costa Blanca

The two hundred kilometres of Costa Blanca coastline offer an abundance of attractions for visitors. Tourism is a big industry in the providence of Alicante. The area is very popular with tourists from around Europe, particular the United Kingdom.

Alicante is the capital and a major city in this region. There is a lot to see in this city. Alicante is a great place to experience Spanish culture and history. There are museums and cathedrals to tour. A festival is held in late June.

Benidorm started out as a fishing village, but has a largely tourist based economy now. The city has more hotels than any other city in Spain. The area is known for its night life. The city has many bars and all night clubs.

Benidorm has many tourist attractions that are of interest to families as well. There are theme parks with rides and a water park nearby. Terra Mitica theme park is located here. Terra Mitica is the largest theme park in Spain.

Villajoyosa is located to the south of Benidorm. It is a smaller village. The pace of life is slower than in the city and more relaxing. Villajoyosa is famous for its chocolate.

Altea is a fishing village and tourist attraction. It is smaller than the larger, more populated cities in the region. This village is a second residence for many northern Europeans. The beaches are pebble and have calm waters. The city offers a beautiful view of the mountains on one side and the sea on the other.

Javea and Denia in the north share a nature park. The Natural Park of Montgo offers flora, fauna and rare birds. Javea has a patron saint festival in the summer. This consists of a festival and bull fighting. The festival is a popular tourist attraction.
