Cashmere Jumpers And Taking Your Goat To The Dry Cleaners

There's no denying it - cashmere jumpers are becoming one of the most popular items in womens clothing this season. And is it any wonder? Made from the wool of the Cashmere goat, a cashmere jumper is one of the softest yet warmest thing to wear this year. But because it's wool, we can get a little concerned (even argumentative) when it comes to deciding the best way to wash one of them.

Basically, there are two ways to do clean them: by hand washing or dry cleaning.

Hand washing versus dry-cleaning is a common debate among cashmere wearers, but truth be told, the best way is to hand wash it. On one hand, dry cleaning is believed to be safe no matter what the material is. On the other hand, dry cleaning isn't really known for thorough cleaning. Hand washing cashmere jumpers however, will help preserve them and make them smell a whole lot better than the chemicals used in dry cleaning.

If you share the concern revolving this debate, there really isn't anything to worry about when hand washing these garments unless the care tags inside of them specify otherwise. Just be sure that when you decide to hand wash your cashmere jumper, you use a mild detergent and you follow the instructions on the outside of the detergents container. In lukewarm water, gently work the solution through the fabric of the jumper and then let it sit in the solution for approximately 15 minutes.

Remove the solution from the garment by gently working it through clear plain water. Then remove the water from the jumper by squeezing it out between two rolled towels.

Now because cashmere is wool, you may have to reshape it to it's original size. Wool shrinks - especially in warm water. That's okay. A gentle tug and pull here or there will bring the jumper back to a wearable condition. Let it air dry flat and keep it away from heat. Like warm water, heat will also shrink a jumper made of cashmere.
