Periyar River
This River is the longest river in Kerala, India with a length of about 244 kilometers. It is also called as "The lifeline of Kerala" as it is one of the small numbers of the perennial river of Kerala. The river provides drinking water for the main town. It flows from the lake and then northwest throughout the village of Neeleswaram into the Vembanad Lake and exit to Arabian Sea coast.
The river ‘s largest tributaries are the Edamala, Perinjankutti, Cheruthoni, Mullayar and the Muthirapuzha. It is also the main water resource for 5 drought prone districts of Tamil Nadu.
Periyar National Park
This park is home to about 62 different types of mammals including several endangered species. Four primates species are also found at the park such as the rare lion-tailed macaque, the Bonnet Macaque, the usual langur and the Nilgiri Langur. There are more than 20 tigers in the reserve. There are also wild boars and gaur or deer in the park.
Tourists come here to view the Indian elephants in the act of playfulness and ablution by the Periyar Lake. Another wildlife inhabiting this park is the elusive Nilgiri tahr.
Nyayamakad Waterfalls
This waterfall is situated 10 kilometers from the Munnar. It is also situated between Rajamala Nyamkad and Munnar. The waters cascade down the hill from a height of approximately 1,600 meters. Itsenchanting surrounding makes an admirable trekking point and picnic spot.
