Until you've experienced the ping of a soundly-struck golf ball and then willed it with every sinew in your body to land in the right spot, you will probably see the game as a pointless obsession taking up acres of green space. Critics joke that golf on the TV is really several hours of shaky televised sky, which is a bit unfair as it's also televised grass, trees and high fashion. But there must be something in it.
