Spirituality Information - Journey In The Fields Of Forever ( Part 13 )

By John Harricharan

My first few days back home were spent going through mail, returning phone calls and playing catch-up with what was happening while I was away. Marla and Gideon were a pleasant memory and I somewhat relegated them to the background of my mind, especially since I knew they would be visiting occasionally. The children and I spent quite some time together chatting about what was going on in their young lives.Jonathan kept me busy with questions and arguments about the world and how it worked. Always the happy- go-lucky one, he was a delight to watch as he involved himself with the "affairs of state" as he saw them. Spontaneity and kindness were his watchwords. Had I submitted a computer request for the ideal son, I couldn't have received a better one. Malika never ceased to amaze me with her wisdom and concern for others. Generally the more serious one, she made sure that everything was always in order and that all tasks were accomplished on time. Had I prepared specifications for the ideal daughter, I couldn't have done better. And I? I attempted to play "Solomon," the referee in residence,as I presided over who was right and who wrong in their seemingly endless squabbles. Most time, playing the part of diplomat, I negotiated compromises to keep the peace. Now as I regard it from the perspective of today, I wonder how I ever survived. Yet, I think I learned more from this pair than from all others combined. It has always been a source of amazement and consternation for me to watch them grow. I remember so well the years when I'd bring home two identical toys of different colors, one red and one blue. Of course, they would both want the blue or both ask for the red. They fought for the same seat in the car and for the same things when different ones were available. But television shows? That's where the differences began. They both wanted to watch different programs at the same time on the same TV. For some strange reason, to them, my TV set, my stereo, my VCR always seemed infinitely more enjoyable than their own.
