By John Harricharan

"So many times I thought you'd forgotten us," I said. "I felt, that because your work was finished here, you just went on to other things that were more interesting and, perhaps, even more productive. Not that I expected you to be here with us and dedicate yourself to our well- being, but every once in a while, every once in a long while, I thought I'd hear a comforting word or some cheers of encouragement. I guess I felt so alone, yet, I kept on keeping on. What could I do? They finally foreclosed on the house and nearly repossessed the car. Many times they turned off the water and telephone services and, well, you just wouldn't believe it. I was even involved in a serious car accident and totally wrecked the car." "Interesting that you hadn't noticed how you walked away from that car wreck with just minor bruises," she replied with a touch of sadness in her voice. "You're still living in a house. The car was not repossessed. Water and telephone services were restored within hours, no health challenges, no major catastrophes. And look at Jonathan and Malika. Malika graduated from high school with honors and has completed college on a full scholarship. She has grown up to be a wonderful, beautiful young woman. Jonathan has become quite a young man, also. He is going to college and is trying to make up his mind about his future. And he is loved and respected by many. Both have grown to be loving, caring, responsible . . . look at them . . . ," as she pointed in their direction. "Look at them, John," she continued, "you couldn't ask for better. I know it's been rough, but you've been doing a wonderful job. We've helped as best we could. And we'll be there for you and the children. I never stopped loving and caring for all of you. I always respond to your call when you hold me in your thoughts. We are all there for you, but we, too, have other things to do. You just don't feel our presence as strongly as you should. But it doesn't matter. Just keep on doing what you're doing and you'd be amazed how things have a way of working out. You'll see that although morning takes all night coming, surely it does come."
