"Yeah, I guess so," I replied as I reflected on what she was saying. "Sometimes it does seem unfair, though," I murmured more to myself than to her.
"In what way, John?" she innocently asked.
"Well, take this financial thing, for example. You'd think that by this time in life I'd have had it all put together. I certainly work hard, but often I see the good suffer and the evil prosper. And I cry out to the heavens like the Psalmist of old, ‘How long, O Lord? How long?' But silence, eternal silence. Sometimes I think that we should pray,‘Our Father Who art in heaven, stay there for all the good it does!' Yep! Doesn't make sense sometimes."
"Oh, you poor thing!" she said in mock horror, "to think that life is unfair! Listen, John, life isn't fair or unfair. Life just is. What you call your financial problems are at an end now. You'll see the reasons for that challenge later on."
"What do you mean ‘at an end'? They're not at an end. Look at what's been happening."
"They're almost over. You'll see. Gideon will explain it to you soon."
"Sure, he'll explain. Just like he was going to explain the greatest secret in the Universe," I cracked somewhat sarcastically.
"If answers are provided for every question, their impact is temporary and easily dismissed. But if answers are discovered in the experience of life, their influence continues for a long time. We believe much more of what we have personally experienced than what others could ever tell us. Gideon and Marla love you very much and seek only your highest good. They will continue to help you."
At the mention of Marla's name, my mind raced back to our romantic interlude. A twinge of guilt came over me as I sat wondering what Mardai might have thought about it. She must have known what was on my mind for she said, "There are areas of your life that are exclusively and personally your own. Even I do not get involved there. Just live your life as brilliantly as possible and don't let guilt, regret or fear negate your validity as a child of the Infinite. There's no need to feel guilty about you and Marla or you and anyone else."
With a sigh of relief, I asked, "I really would like to know more about this after-life world, Mardai. Would you help me learn more?"
