By John Harricharan

"Most of your questions will be answered in time," he said. "Right now, I'm just supposed to tell you that Marla and I will be working with you again. Glorious adventures ahead, John! Now tell me about the children. How are they doing?" I always had the impression that he knew most things, but here he was asking me about the children. Didn't he know? Perhaps, he was just trying to start a conversation. "The children are fine," I replied, "Jonathan will be in college soon and Malika is going on to graduate school. Their mother would have been proud of them, Gideon. We talk about her often, you know." "She is proud of them and in many ways assists you in helping them to learn and grow. Do you think that you accomplished such an enormous task without any help?" "I didn't mean it that way, Gideon. But their mother died years ago and we have struggled and sacrificed to survive and get to this point. The struggle hasn't been easy. It certainly hasn't been a picnic, but overall, we're doing OK. Don't you know all these things, anyway? You always seem to know everything." "I did get some reports and I did stop by from time to time just to peek in, so to say. Well, I'll be in much closer contact now. I'll be seeing you soon to continue our work." Gideon stood up, smiled at me and continued speaking as he turned to leave. "Marla will meet you when your flight lands. I have to go now." Before I could respond he was gone. Just as in the past, he simply walked down the aisle turned and disappeared. Overcome by a yawning fit,I turned and stretched. Not very convincingly, I told myself I must have fallen asleep; I probably dreamed this whole scene about meeting Gideon again. But in front of me on the foldout tray were the two empty coffee cups Gideon and I had used. No, it wasn't a dream. He really had returned.
