Break-ups are among the hardest things in life to deal with as proven by people who have taken their lives toward a disastrous path as a result of losing someone they care about deeply or even more sadly, those who have taken their own lives because of the desperation they must have felt. * As in everyday life, there are certain rules that you need to follow in the process of getting you ex back. The first thing you have to remember is to appear stoic, that is, do not be a wallowing creature that can no longer function because of the loss you have suffered. If and when you ex see this, it will just be a validation of his or her decision to break it off with you as you are exhibiting signs of utter weakness and despair. No one wants to be with someone who wallows in despair so you should be the picture of great composure, at least on the surface.
* Make sure that your ex knows that you have already moved on with your life but in the same way, let them remember the good times you had together. Do not burn all your photos and keepsakes instead, mail it to him or her along with a letter that says how much you appreciate your time together but now that you are apart, it has been a great turnaround for you as you have discovered a lot of things about yourself. This would, at the very least, compel them to think back on the moments you have shared and how happy you two were. If he or she happens to still feel something for you, that feeling might get rekindled which can lead to reconciliation.
* Remain distant but be present in his or her life still. This can be tricky because there is a very think line that separates being a caring ex and a hopeless and creepy stalker. Do not change your phone number yet and hold off on your plans to move to another residence (especially if you have lived together). If you do move, make sure that he or she has a way to contact you in case they feel the need to see you regardless of the reason.
* Do not start dating immediately but make sure that your ex knows that you have made yourself available for casual acquaintances. If he or she suggests that you stay friends, do not shun the offer instead, accept it with a gracious attitude that is neither cold nor overly excited.
* Maintain communication with your ex especially if they asked you to still part of their lives because if they still love you, there is a very good chance that the time you spend apart from each other will only strengthen your relationship further.
