Golf is an outdoor sport played by men and women all over the world. Annual tournaments are conducted in various parts of Europe and US. There are four major men's golf championships played during April, June, July and August. Masters Tournament starts on 2nd Sunday in April at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, USA. This men's golf championship was founded by Clifford Roberts and Bobby Jones in the year 1934. The Augusta National Golf Club has a yardage of 7,445 with 72 Par three holes, designed by Alister MacKenzie. This tournament is an official paid event on the PGA, the PGA European and the Japan Golf Tours. The prize money for this prestigious men's golf championship is $7.5 million. The winner of the 2008 Masters Tournament is a South African professional golfer named Trevor John Immelman. The US Open Golf Championship is organized by the United States Golf Association. This annual open golf tournament is played during the month of June with the final round played exactly on the 3rd Sunday. This tournament is on the schedule of the PGA and the European tours. This men's golf championship was established in 1895. This tournament will be played in June 2009 at Bethpage State Park which measures 1,476 acres. The prize money for this men's golf Championship is $8.64 million. It is different from the other three majors in that the Open Championship offers a four hole playoff for all the participants tied at the end of regulated time and if the players still tie after four hole playoffs, the game continues with playoffs into sudden death holes. The Open Championship will be played at the Turnberry Golf Course with 70 Pars and yardage 7,250 in 2009. This tournament is on the schedule of the PGA, the PGA European and the Japan Golf Tours. The US PGA Championship is conducted in mid-August in US by the PGA of America every year. It was first conducted in the year 1916. The prize money for the men's golf championship is $7.5 million. This Championship will be played at the Hazeltine National Golf Club with 72 Pars and yardage of 7,685 in the year 2009. This tournament is on the schedule of the PGA, the PGA European and the Japan Golf Tours. The format of the tournament until 1957 was of the match play type and after 1957 till today, it is of the stroke play type. An Irish golfer named Pádraig Harrington is the current champion in this tournament. When a professional golfer wins all the four major events, he is destined for many privileges making his career more secure and he becomes one of the elite golfers.
