This is a problem that most owners of dogs face. They do not train them from the time they were puppies and now they are paying for their negligence. Most of them ask their friends for different types of solutions.
You should know how to fix your dog's bad behaviors. You can see the proof all over the room. Your dog has soiled various parts of your house with its excreta and you can find pools of water all over the place.
This problem aggravates during the monsoon season when the dogs do not perspire. You keep on wondering how to fix your dog's bad behaviors a bit too late. You should have started training him in housebreaking manners when he was a puppy.
The puppy has to be trained so that he is accustomed to stay in a crate from the time you first obtain him. Find a crate that fits him perfect. It should neither be too big nor too small. If the crate is too large for him, you have to cordon off one side.
There should be sufficient room in the crate for the puppy to lie down comfortably; at the same time there should not be excessive space in the crate. The crate should also be well ventilated and it should provide lots of visibility.
Though there are two types of crates, the fiberglass one and the ones made of wire, it is recommended that you opt in for the wire one since that provides better ventilation.
There are certain instances where a fiberglass crate serves better, especially if you have a short-coated breed or a toy breed. If you are still wondering how to fix your dog's bad behavior, keep reading.
Each time you observe that the puppy is about to go to nap, put him in the crate. When he wakes up, take him outside and persuade him to eliminate. This is the time you can teach him key words like `go potty', `do it boy' etc. this will help him to associate these words with actions.
You will observe that most of the time he will eliminate. This action requires patience since the puppy might want to play with you for some time. Do not let this distract you and after he has played for some time, he will eliminate.
But keep on repeating the encouraging words and make him learn to associate these words with his eliminating actions. Initially the puppy might object to his being crated and this is the most vital time that you teach him manners. He might whine or bark and even cry, but do not let him out of the crate.
At the same time also ensure that you remain there and do not leave him alone. This is also the perfect time to teach him to be quiet. Rolling a piece of paper and beating him lightly with it with the commands `quiet' can achieve this. Within a few days your puppy will be trained in the basics and you can go ahead and teach him advanced commands.
