Behind the happy facade of urban family their lies a gory truth of domestic violence.Domestic violencevery broadly takes into account not only physical but also verbal violence and abuse.
Seeking dowry is ill legal in India,the practice persists in the form of wedding gifts and has been leading factor in domestic violence. The women inside the homes very badly beaten up by their husbands,for their demands of bowry are noy fulfilled.The women are forced to bring money from their father's home and when their demands are not fulfilled they are abused and beaten mercilessly by their husbands and in-laws.
Even if huge dowry has been paid, and the demands of the other party have been satisfied in their entiterty,their is no guarante that the daughter will enjoy a happy and comfortable life in home of her n-laws.Additional demands are constantly made and if the parents of the girl fail to meet them brides are subjected to untold of torture and suffering.Their life becomes insecure and become unbearable inthe house of their in-laws.Thus greed and violence wreck the home and cause untold of suffering to the young ,innocent bride and her parents.There seems to be no limit to human greed and animalism. Around70% of woman in the country face domestic violence in one form or another.
When today girls are not limited to homes they are standing with man in every field,they are not remained in background todaythey are coming in fore ground and are contributing in all sepheres of life,but ours is yet male dominated society where when a male child is born there is all happiness in the family but when a girl is born she is regarded as a big burden over family and mothers are called responsible for the birth of female child.The mothers are forced to kill the female child in their womb.So they suffers domestic violence in or another form.
Urgent steps must be taken to put down the crime and violence against the women.Healthy public opinion must be created against such undesirable,criminal activities.Both social organisations and religious bodies must come out openly against the dowry system. Wwomen's organisations,which are now quite large in number , should carry on an intensive propogonda against such offences. Acts have been passed by the law for welcoming the protection of women from domestic violence.The acts passed by the parliament recognises violence perpetrated by husbands on wives.
It is now upto the women to come out of their homes and files complaints regarding any kind of domestic violence against them.Women should be educated today and should be made aware about the laws made for their safety against domestic violence. They should boldly stand against the violence done on them.Young men and women should also themselves resist such malpractices. And the education is the only tool which the suffering women can use against the violence done on them.
