Losing weight can be a really frustrating process for anyone. There are some people who really have a significant amount of weight to lose, while there are others who have the stubborn five or ten pounds that they want gone. Generally, diet and exercise works well, but when it doesn't, it might be time to take action. Luckily, for the people who are having an extremely hard time losing weight, they can turn to cosmetic surgery procedures such as liposuction. However, it is important to note that the liposuction procedure is not something that they can just go out and do; it requires careful planning. The first thing that you need to do is find an excellent liposuction surgeon. For this, you will need to consider how far you would be willing to travel for the right doctor, and then narrow down your search by geographical location. Things to consider include the total number of procedures they have done, and how many of those were considered a success. The surgeon should also be certified, and have a portfolio of before and after pictures to show you. Some people choose their surgeon based not on the above criteria, but on how much they charge for their services. Never choose a doctor just because their prices are low – there are too many risks. The overall cost for a liposuction procedure takes several things into consideration: the cost of booking and sanitizing the surgical room, cost of living and labor fees, and the bandages you need to wear after the surgery. Expect the overall cost to a few thousand dollars. Then, of course, there is the actual procedure. The basics will vary depending on the area that is to be worked on, but overall, the patient is first anesthetized. Sometimes, however, if the area to be worked on is especially small, then only local anesthesia will be needed. The anesthesia is either injected into the area, or administered to the patient as a gas. Once the patient has been sufficiently anesthetized, it is time for the actual incisions to be made. The incisions themselves are very small, usually a quarter of an inch at the most. Next, a small metal tube, which is attached to a pump, is inserted and used to vacuum out the excess fat. When the procedure is finished, there are two ways that the incisions are dealt with. In the first method, a couple of stitches are used to close each incision. In the second method, the incisions are actually left open. Some doctors prefer to use the latter method, since it means less bruising. The incisions are then dressed with bandages, which stay on for a couple of weeks after the surgery. Usually within a week after the procedure, the patient is able to return to most of the usual activities, aside from those that require a lot of rigorous physical activity. While results are seen immediately, it will take a couple of months before the body completely adjusts to its new shape.
