Is An Ultimate Leadership Guide The Answer?

In the past 10 years, there has been a huge cry for ultimate leadership guides to come flying off the British and American presses. Why is this? Well, it's because leadership in recently decades has become fragmented and confused for many individuals, and is now in danger of alienating even enthusiastic leadership followers. So what has happened to the world leadership recently, that has shaken it's foundations such that even personal development die-hard fans are beginning to abandon ship unless an ultimate leadership guide is created? Several things have happened: The growth of the internet has meant that meant that rogue so-called 'leadership gurus' who are essentially just internet marketers, have taken a stronghold in the search engines and thus are attracting alot of attention from ordinary internet users. These marketers are exploiting the fact that leadership is a vast and often 'unknown' subject area, to offer 'quick fix' solutions to visitors that are neither good value or effective. These 'gurus' are undermining the public image of leadership professionals - be they consultants, authors, speakers or bloggers. Secondly, the amount of material on the subject of leadership has expanded exponentially due to the world wide web. The real visionaries who push forward small revolutions in leadership thinking are not always the large, publisher-backed authors, but instead the entrepreneurs and successful managers in industry who are achieving great things from their people on a day to day basis. The internet has meant that these thought-provoking leaders are able to express their views and opinions on debate forums or by running their own blog. Even blogs with small readerships are responsible for a great deal of material on the subject in todays world. Both these factors: An increase in the amount of leadership material, and the need to be able to distinguish it from ruthless internet marketers posing as a miracle pill provider, has led to the call for an Ultimate leadership guide. An ultimate leadership guide would bring together the important and crucial techniques and tips described in the trusted, popular and effective leadership sources such as books and blogs. The ultimate leadership guide is a brilliant idea, but will it effectively solve the problem of deceptive online con-merchants? In part, I believe it would. If sufficient bloggers and authors supported the project - it would be able to get enough buzz on the net to attract those that would have originally been drawn in by the call of the internet marketers. It would also solve the second problem quite swiftly also; the problem of the abundance of leadership information. Most personal development material is very wasteful - it wastes the readers time. An ultimate leadership guide would basically cut out the countless 'examples' that authors use to pad out their paperbacks and explain their points - leaving just the core messages behind. To be able to strip out this excess and deliver just the core and important points would be the redeeming feature of an ultimate leadership guide. The people are calling for one! Will you be able to create one?

Simon Oates theorises about the concepts of The Ultimate Leadership Guide on his leadership blog: Leadership Expert.
