When going shopping for a provider to host your website with, even though it would be fun and enjoyable in the beginning especially the first time when you open your site from your browser, the wrong web hosting service provider will bring you to your knees latter as your website might not open, it would be too slow or in other words, all the things will happen on which you had your nightmares.
A person learns from their mistakes granted but if you have the luxury for this mistake than it would be no problem but in case you do not have this luxury and want to get it right the first time, like anything else you will have to spend a little time getting yourself acquainted with the technology and terminologies because to a new person all this could be very confusing in trying to learn all the names and understanding how things function but there are a few basics one could learn easily to get an idea of what they are getting into.
When you are deciding on a web hosting service provider, do not fall for the salesman or saleswoman's pitch or how nice they are, this is not something like a disposable commodity which you can just throw away latter if you found out it was a lemon. Your business or plan will get effected and when people are unable to open your website or find it functioning too slow it will lower their morale and trust in you making it harder to achieve your own target for which you made the website in the first place.
It is not recommendable to start with finding a web hosting service provider who is the cheapest as this is not the key ingredient in this field. There is a lot of complex infrastructure working in the back ground to offer a good platform on which to host your website. In the selection process, you have to chart out what you require from your website and match it technically with the web hosting service provider, ask them for their testimonials and prevailing customers to whom you could talk but be certain that their customers who you talk too are actually using the same web hosting plan as you will be with similar technical specifications on their own website.
It is also a good thought to think about expansion in the future and ask the web hosting company about upgrading with the cost and price for those as well because sooner or latter, you will need to upgrade if you play your cards properly as more and more people will come to visit your website.
There is no right or wrong, there are good and bad web hosting service companies, do not waste your time looking for the best but spend your time looking for a web hosting company that offer what you are looking for with the possibility of upgrade and the cost for now and then, with this information make a comparison to other providers and you will end up with a list which would not be very long.
