How Weight Loss Differs Between Men and Women

There are countless differences between men and women. Men like extreme adventure, sports, beer, and outdoor grilling. For their part, women love chick flicks, fashion, ice cream, and little knick knacks in the kitchen. The endless differences also cover weight loss. In general, men would lose excess weight through sweating it out at the gym, while women prefer having to count calories as a means to stay fit. The perceptions as well as attitudes men and women have when it comes to weight loss could have significant roles in the overall success of the weight control program for both. Women, and men, too, could be more motivated by mere societal expectations and pressures. There are several gender-based rationalizations that should be put to rest. The following are some of the conventional and basic truths regarding weight loss among men and women. Men lose weight much faster than women do. Scientifically, this is truthful due to higher testosterone levels in men that drastically help burn excess calories. In fact, the process could proceed even while a man is at rest. It could also help build up muscle mass more quickly. Also because of gender-specific hormones, aging is translating into slower loss of weight in women. Slowing metabolism on the other hand could affect both genders. Fat accumulation happens in different body areas in men and in women. As men accumulate more stored body fat, they tend to adopt the shape of an apple. Thus, they find it most difficult to control and trim fat around their belly. For their part, women tend to be pear-shaped so their bodies tend to widen around the buttocks and hips. However, post-menopausal women could start accumulating bulges around the middle body portion as well. In terms of attitude towards weight loss initiatives, men and women still differ. Men are usually more competitive, a trait that is effective when they diet or keep a workout schedule. Women are more attentive towards the effort. It helps that they more effectively make necessary connection linking emotions with foods. Both men and women ultimately aim to look great. This is especially true specifically for young adults. However, perceptions and intentions tend to differ as they age. In the long run, men see weight loss programs more as a form of health improvement, whereas women only see strength improvement as just secondary to health/ fitness. When it comes to food consumption, men and women pay attention to portion sizes and choices. Men tend to get more protein for muscle building, almost always forgetting the significance of fruits and vegetables. They also usually forget considering calories when they enjoy beer and cocktail. Women tend to consume more fruits and vegetables. However, they often overlook their need for protein. Lastly, both could prefer to do any type of workout or weight loss program. Cardiovascular workouts could burn out more calories in both sexes but the activities also fail to help build and tone lean muscles. The best program is the strategically combining cardio with muscle-building mechanism. Thus, it is recommended that men and women do up to three strength training workouts and about six cardio workouts per week.
