We've all heard the spiel of all the different and often difficult to remember things we are supposed to be doing to save us on gas. The fact is, that while those things are probably saving you so little, that you hardly notice because you're too busy trying to remember to do them! Things like checking your tire pressure every time you fill up, watching your speed, and avoiding stops. If you are doing these things and you have time, great! But, if you are like the rest of us who are living in the rat race, you want simple options that make real progress. So, if that's you, here are a few simple tips that will really help you save on gas and make your tank last longer. 1) Carpool. Everyone knows someone or of someone that they work with who lives around that same area they do. But, if you don't consider sending out a mass email at work, but you should probably ask permission before you do that. A lot of work places are aware of these hard economic times and are willing to do whatever it takes to help you make the most of your dollar, and if that means a mass email about carpooling, then they'll probably allow it. Also, a lot of big businesses have extra parking lot space where they would let you leave your car so you can carpool, so cities actually have designated carpooling parking lots. You'll just have to do your research. But, carpooling is one the best ways to make your tank last longer, especially if you have a long commute. 2) Bike or walk to work or school. If you live relatively close to where you work or go to school, consider biking or walking. Not only is this a healthy option for you and for the environment, but it will also save you seriously on gas. 3) Plan your errand route. Another great way to save money on gas, is to plan your errand route so that you eliminate a lot of running around and you get everything you need while your out and about. You should also plan to pick things up when your going to and from work, that way you can get them while you already out. This will eliminate multiple trips to town, and it will also save you money. The best way to ensure that you get everything in one trip is to keep a running list on your fridge of things that you need at the store. If you forget something while your out and it's something you can live without, save it for next week's trip. You will be amazed how much you will save, especially if you commit errand running to only one day a week. 4) Get a gas card. A lot of gas stations offer incentives if you apply for a gas card with their company, such as discounts on fuel and cash back. Especially if you commute a lot this may be a good option for you. As you can see there a lot of painless ways to save gas, that don't require a lot of thought or remembering. As with anything, the only way you will see results is if you really commit to it.
