Ask thousand of parents about their main concern with their kids and thousand will also respond-- "they eat too little!'
Eating solid is a new experience for your budding glory thus parents will need to wait for the right time when he can appreciate the colors, texture, taste of the food. And given that children crave for consistency, problems with little appetite are solved simply by giving several servings of food per day so they will get used to it.
It is better for parents to feed them with food before they can build up a habit of rejecting them and asserting their independence. You can do this by offering variety of healthy choices so your child will have the opportunity to eat his choice when he's ready for lunch.
Problems of little appetite should not forcedly be corrected by parents seeing the fact that each child possesses an innate sense to eat only the quantity that their body requires in order to be healthy. Parent's duty should only involve giving various healthy food choices while maintaining a healthy and relax environment as to achieve a pleasant meal time. Here are some tips to live by:
• If you wish to serve a new food, you can just put it on their high chair and do not give a big deal about it.
•Ensure that the new food is age-appropriate.
• You can give these ‘new foods' one at a time and in small amounts. In every meal, include one kind of food that you know your toddler loves as to stir the appetite. You can also schedule the new food during the time when you know your child is hungry so he won't have any choice but to taste the new delicacy.
• See to it that the amount is suitable for his age; provide toddler-size portions. You can research information online about the needed amount for each age.
• Keep in mind that every child possesses their own craving about the color, texture, or taste of foods that they like, thus what is liked by one may be hated by another. Do not compare, appreciate their uniqueness.
• Children may associate foods on a certain event of their life thus they may reject certain kind of food given that it reminds them the time when they were sick.
• Search for ways by which you can augment the nutritional value of a certain dish. Add fruits or vegetables on their porridge for example.
• Do not tempt the child to dwell too much on sugary foods for a treat. You may want to develop his sense of taste and not his sweet tooth.
• To eat more, you could lessen the distractions at the table, turn off the cartoon show on the background, tell his sibling to stop running the house, get rid of toys on the table, etc.
• Give them fresh and unprocessed food by cooking the meal by yourself, doing this can also become a good ground for healthy eating.
