You will need to make sure that you MC or quiz master for the night is very easy to understand. Be honest with yourself and make sure that if you are not the right person for the job you have someone else who is, otherwise the pub quiz will become a chore rather than fun. The quiz master needs to be clear, concise, commanding and authoritative in nature. Get the quiz master right and the pub quiz will be much easier and enjoyable. Make sure you have a full set of rules and regulations set out way in advance before the quiz night don't presume that these will come as the night progresses. We all need rules and this is the same in a quiz. Once you have them set up get someone to check them a good starting point is the landlord of the pub as they will more often be used to quiz nights and also will advise if they conflict with him. Have a dry run to start with the quiz master to make sure they can pronounce the words before its live. It would be embarrassing and could annoy teams if the quiz master doesn't know how to say a word and would probably end up with some people arguing if they get the question wrong. The length of the quiz night is very much dictated by the pub landlord, the amount of questions and how many rounds. Try and aim for 1hr 30mins as this is a nice time and start it about 8pm. Advertise the quiz night. Create a short A4 Poster and put in the pub, local libraries and shops door if at all possible tell friends, family and get work college a long the more the merrier. In the UK we love doing pub quizzes and landlords love a successful night as the more enjoyment the players have usually the more money behind the bar. What is the pub quiz designed for. Say the pub quiz is designed for a bit of fun then you need to certainly make sure that teams and players see this in the entry fee and the prize money. If it is more of a serious quiz night then you will need to consider upping the prize money but be warned the more serious it is the more people will get into arguments about unfair marking and cheating which is common nowadays with mobile phones. Set the entry fee for fun quizzes to be about around £1 per team member to make sure that it doesn't put off the small teams but you could also set it as £5 per team with maximum 5 players per team. Make the prize something like a free drink per player in the winning team. Keep it fun in the quiz night if this is your aim. This will also be reflected in your rounds. RULES TO REMEMBER 1 The MC/Quiz master is always right 2 The MC/Quiz master has the final say Good luck
