The increasing use of cell phones while driving has become a serious safety concern. A recently released study by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute found that "80% of traffic accidents are caused by driver distraction and young drivers were four times more likely to be involved in a crash." The study also showed that "about 65 percent of near-crashes resulted from driver inattentiveness in the 3 seconds before the incident." The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that "in 2005, 10 percent of drivers using cell phones were drivers 16 to 24 years old." More laws are now being enacted to end cell phone use when driving. If you are caught driving in a state that has these laws, you can be ticketed by a police officer and receive a fine. Fortunately, there a number of hands-free mobile phone accessories that people can purchase so they no longer have to worry about getting a ticket. To eliminate driver distraction and comply with the new laws, consumers are now choosing wireless hands-free accessories that allow them to use their cell phones without having to hold them. The four types of mobile hands-free accessories include: 1. There are plug-and-play devices that plug into the vehicle's 12-volt accessory outlet and have an integrated speaker. 2. Wireless headsets are light weight devices that plug into the vehicle's 12-volt accessory plug so it is always completely charged. You can even purchase voice recognition technology that allows you to use the phone using voice commands. 3. A speaker-phone device that clips to the driver-side sun visor is another useful mobile phone hands-free accessory. 4. Another accessory is an installed car kit that is incorporated into the vehicle's sound system and works by way of the speakers. There are different types of car kits that can include: LCD display that displays caller I.D. and cell phone directory, a GPS antenna that transmits the driver's location to the display on a PDA or laptop, and the kit can have voice command capability. Handset accessories allow you to access your handset features remotely by means of a hands free device. The mobile car charger is a hands free charger. The mobile holder keeps the handset in place. The hands-free speaker allows you to hear through a speaker without using any wires. More states are imposing bans on cell phone use by drivers With the wide availability and varying price range of hands-free accessories, there is an accessory to meet each individual's needs. You will no longer have to take a big risk legally and personally when driving. Because it is the law, one is mandated not to use a cell phone while driving. If your state or province has yet to enact a cell phone ban law, it is important to keep up to date on the laws to make sure your state does not suddenly enact a law banning cell phone use while driving. Using hands-free mobile phone accessories are easy, convenient, and will help reduce the chances of getting in a car accident.
