What Makes an Exceptional Jewelry Box?
There is a lot of propaganda in today's promotions about quality. It has become an empty word. Quality should have good joinery techniques and completely utilize the inside of a project.
The design of this woodworking jewelry box and poker box plans is straightforward. Any woodworker can construct it in just a few weekends. The exterior of the jewelry box is 10½"L x 7½" wide x 3" tall. I used Walnut for this jewelry box woodworking plans. You can use any good hardwood, such as oak, cherry, or maple.
The Blueprint
This Jewelry Box has inherent good looks and convenience. These resemble two wings of a dove. If one is "busted", the piece will not "fly".
A music movement adds a pleasant touch, but it is not necessary. There is space in the top for necklaces, which saves room. You can use thick foam covered in velvet, which gives a first-rate area for rings and earrings. You can make a glass cover to keep dust off the music movement.
The thick foam helps hold the cover in place. By adding thinner foam to the front, you have space for pierced earrings, bracelets, or other items. This thinner foam helps to control the cover, as well.
The movement key to wind the mechanism is on the bottom of the box. You should pin down the music movement tight to the bottom with two screws. This method improves the quality and clarity of the music.
You could utilize partitions to separate the jewelry compartment. That involves more work, but is a nice addition.
You can modify the plan to build a Poker Box. You need to change the dimensions and use different inserts. However, the design is comparable.
The box is put together with miter joints. A tablesaw makes this easy. You need a slot in the front/back and sides for the 1/4" bottom. I think a slot cutter in your router table works well, but you could use another method. The glass cover for the movement needs support. Two pieces joined together with a slot can serve this purpose. The cover keeps out dust, and you can see the movement in action.
The tricky part is gluing the miter joints. However, I have an excellent solution -- a novel clamping method. You can view this method at the link below.
The music in this jewelry box uses a Reuge 36-note movement. The Reuge movements are made in Switzerland, and are world famous. The 36-note movements are a little pricey, but I found an outlet, while supplies last. The 36-note movements give a high-class sound.
