Sterling silver, also known as 925 silver, is the optimal choice over silver and other variations because it tarnishes less. Gold is great for both the chain and the pendant as it is a timeless look and never tarnishes. Gold is also soft and light so it will make the personalized necklace feel lighter. The hippest designs can have gold on one side and silver on the other side.
