Do you know that many people believe that hypnosis is a state of deep slumber or sleep? In reality, it is not so. Hypnosis is a mental state induced by a procedure, and the effective way to use hypnosis is done through hypnotic induction through preliminary instructions or suggestions. Hypnosis can also be described as a state of altered consciousness. Some people define hypnosis as a state of consciousness which may be similar to sleep, where the person is perfectly aware of memories, sensations, and other faculties. Hypnosis could be described as a psychological process in which the creative faculties are stimulated resulting in concentrated thinking and a higher level of perception. The American Psychological Association has described hypnosis as a cooperative interaction in which the participant responds to the suggestion of the hypnotist. Hypnotism can be induced through a hypnotist, or may be self administered by auto suggestion. You could be aware that though hypnosis and the effects of hypnotism are well known, it is not very clear how the process takes place. The Effects of Hypnosis: You may be aware that the effect of hypnosis varies from one person to another – while some people experience a sense of detachment and relaxation during the state of hypnosis, others feel as if the actions which take place are beyond their volition and control. Some people are fully aware even when under hypnosis. The correct method to use hypnosis enables the person to redefine his aims and goals with clarity, and block out distractions and unnecessary hindrances. When you start to use hypnosis, a state of deep relaxation is induced which helps the individual to view fears, anxieties and pain from a higher perspective. Hypnosis makes a person's mind more acceptable to suggestions. It works with the subconscious mind because it is that part of the brain which keeps functions in the background in the waking and sleeping states. Many people are afraid of hypnosis as they have the misconception that they are surrendering their ‘will' to the hypnotist or an external person. Hypnosis has been used in the treatment of pain, depression, stress, anxiety, and other physical disorders for a very long time. Hypnosis does not involve surrendering your will to another person, nor does it make you do anything you do not want to do. It cannot make you do anything against your will. While some people are very responsive to use hypnosis, others do not respond due to inbuilt fears and misconceptions about hypnotism. Uses of Hypnotism: Hypnotism has found many uses in the world of medicine and psychology. The suggestions made through hypnotism have been effectively used in medicine to cure some of the stubborn diseases. Hypnosis helps to change attitudes, which in turn helps change the person's behavior. Hypnosis cures nausea and stress-related symptoms, is used for helping in de-addiction programs, and can also help in pain management and the treatment of chronic pain. Hypnotism is used to cure people from various phobias, to achieve effective weight control, cure Irritable Bowel Syndrome, boost up confidence and self esteem levels, teach assertiveness, for stress management, and to help cure all types of anxieties. The program to use hypnosis can be effectively used to treat all factors which hinder progress and success.
